Escape(by DeShaun A. Craddock) There’s really something about fire escapes in New York. They don’t just represent a safety feature. In fact, that’s probably the last thing that comes to mind for me. It’s where my parents used to set up the hibachi grill for mini BBQs when I was a kid. It’s where people take their cigarrette breaks. It’s where you go to escape the house party when you want to talk to someone. It where people hang out just because. It’s a home to flower boxes, bird feeders, laundry, xmas decorations. It’s also one of the few places you can go and get an unobstructed, elevated view of your city. A mini observation deck.
